Breaking news: Tsinghua postpones students' return to campus because of coronavirus

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

Co-Director Rick Dunham: "We pledge to keep you updated in a timely manner about the implications of the coronavirus epidemic on the Global Business Journalism program's spring semester."

We just received this message from Tsinghua University officials. Apologies for the slightly fractured English in the translation:

Dear All:

Because of the current situation of pneumonia caused by the 2019 coronavirus, Tsinghua has decided to postpone the date of our returning to school (the spring semester of the academic year 2019 ~ 2020). The specific returning date and follow-up arrangements will be notified separately.

If you don't have any specific cause, please do not come back to Tsinghua before any information about the returning date comes out.

If you do need to come back, please contact [the GBJ office] first.

Thank you for your cooperation.

This additional note is from GBJ Co-Director Rick Dunham:

"We pledge to keep you updated in a timely manner about the implications of the coronavirus epidemic on the Global Business Journalism program's spring semester. The timing of our information sharing will depend on how often we get updates from government and university officials.

"In the meantime, please follow the latest news updates from reliable news sources. The Beijinger has been publishing frequent updates in English. Caixin and Beijing Daily have produced comprehensive coverage in Chinese. The Washington Post, The New York Times and the South China Morning Post are trustworthy sources of new information."
